Carol and Steve go on vacation to Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort in Nassau, Bahamas.
We flew Song from Boston to West Palm Beach and paid a visit to my mom to help her pack up for her trip up North, from being down in Florida all winter.
After visiting her we flew from West Palm to Nassau on Bahamas Air. It was pretty cool to fly in that Dash-8 prop plane. It flew through the clouds.
On arrival at the Nassau airport, we went to the Sandals desk and they arranged for a ride to the resort.
Our cab driver turned out to be a big Boston sports fan, so we had a fun ride talking about all the recent championships we've won. ;-)
We arrived at check in and were given champagne while we waited to be registered.
Turns out we were upgraded to an ocean view room with free mini bar. Nice!
At Sandals, everything is included. They have a great selection of restaurants. Some are buffet and some have waiters and waitresses.
Sandals Tip #1 - Restaurant Reservations:
The first thing you have to do when you get there is make a reservation for one of the nice restaurants. If you don't do this right away, you might not be able to get to eat at one. We got reservations for our last night, at the Crystal restaurant. Carlton was out waiter, and he was really great. He kept offering us pepper with each course until I asked him if he was trying to push the pepper on us. We all had a good laugh at that.
There are activities all day, so you can choose to join or not. We took went on a power walk with Michael Angelo. He took us outside the resort and was waving and talking to all the people in the passing cars. I called him 'the Major of Nassau' because it seemed like he knew everybody.
Sandals Tip #2 - Internet Access:
The hotel has not WiFi, but does have a room in the business center with internet access that costs 50 cents/minute. That's $30/hour! A better place to access the intetnet is outside the resort at this place called Internet and Web Cafe where the rates are $12/hour, $8/half hour, and $5 for under 1/2 hour. We only went in there once, but the speed was great.
