Steve Garfield's Video Blog is on the Syllabus!

Murray Jensen, at the University of Minnesota, is suggesting that his students use my videos as content for their class, CI 5391 Technology in the Postsecondary Developmental Education Curriculum.

It's interesting to me because a link to my Video Blog is just above his link to Copy Right Law. Ha! I think he means copyright.

I followed the link and ended up reading a page about Fair Use which states, "Students may incorporate others' works into their multimedia creations and perform and display them for academic assignments."

Hi Kids! You ROCK!

My Eighth DNC Video Blog Report

Here's my eighth DNC video blog report: Participatory Democracy.

Thursday night, the last night of the DNC convention, I went into Cambridge to check out the Final Hurrah of Participatory Democracy.

The New York Times said Participatory Democracy "presents the election process as a farce and freedom of choice as a crapshoot."

In this video I interview some of the artists who produced the show, take a look at some of the unusual voting machines and hear about the Kerry/Bush Cookie Bake-Off.

In the end balloons came down, a winner was announced and a good time was had by all. I haven't included the balloon drop so as not to upstage the Democtratic balloon drop.

I'm also hesitant to include all the footage of the counts from each voting machine since when I add them up I come up up with a different winner than the one that was annouced to the crowd.

This might require me to do further interviews and research for a investigative report. ;-)

This time I went into the theatre disctrict to interview Boston comedian Tim McIntire just before he went on stage for a John Kerry fundraiser.

I'm working hard to post at least one new video a day.

Video Blogging isn't as easy as posting text and pictures from your cell phone, but by doing a project like this, I hope to help us all figure out the easiest way to get video on a blog.

Convention Blog Recommendation

Check out Steve Garfield's Video Blog. He's got speeches you don't get to see on TV, interviews with unusual people and a real insiders look at the convention. It brings to life all those other blogger's tales of too many people and not enough diet coke. (Notice how much it's just like any other trade show --- the trade being politics instead of software or shoes.)

You can watch a piece of the veteran's speech by Wesley Clark that I referenced below. It really is a stem-winder.

This is a very original convention blog. I give it two thumbs up!

I've already given out my convention blogger award to Fafblog, but Very Good convention blogging is being done by Steve Garfield on his video blog.  As I wrote in his comments, I was beginning to feel like Steve Gilliard about convention blogging, but his videos were good and informative (and avoided repeating memes like "Clinton really is a rock star.")

I'm glad I can make some videos that give people a feel for being here in Boston.
