This has been one of the coldest winters on record in Boston, yet signs are still up at Jamaica Pond prohibiting skating.
Back in the late 1800's, JH Bufford and Winslow Homer depicted the peasure many Boaton resident got from skating on the pond. Jamaica Pond used to be the majot source of ice for Boston.
Recently the Boston Fire Department cut holes in the ice, not for cooling off beverages, but to practice ice rescues.
