The new 2006 "Return to Monticello" Nickel, that was just announced by the US Mint, has no numeral five on it.
There is a Citizens Commemorative Coin Advisory Committee. What were they thinking?

That makes it pretty clear. And don't get me started on "In God We Trust."
As a Yirrapean I'd have to say that I tell the coins apart based on the colour, size, and texture of the edge. I rarely look at the number, except with the 1 and 2 euro coins, because I can never remember which one has the "silver" on the out-, and which one on the inside.
Also, the Dutch 2 euro-coin has the inscription "God zij met ons" (God be with us).
