Video Podcast

Hi to everyone who is comming here searching for a video podcast.

I made this blog last year to test the concept of being able to post a video in an RSS feed and have it automatically downloaded by an aggregator.  The test worked, but there was no video iPod back then.

Now there is!

If you want to see what to see how a video podcast would work, please visit my video blog, Steve Garfield's Video Blog.

It features two regular shows:

The Carol and Steve Show - A real reality show about what my wife and I do on teh weekends, editing into an amusing short program.  People seem to like it.

Vlog Soup - A free video tour around the vlogosphere, showing you a sampling of video blogs that I've enjoyed during the week.

My video blog is available for subscription in iTunes 6.0. ( previous versions of iTunes too )

All you have to do is click here to add Steve Garfield's Video Blog to your iTunes.

Clicking that link will open up the Apple iTunes Music Store. Click subscribe, it's free, and all my new shows will be automatically delivered to you for viewing in iTunes or on your shiny new Video iPod.

Two Straws

My mom told me a story about how she took two straws for a drink at a local hot dog stand.

The owner told her that she could only have one straw. She never went back to that hot dog stand.

Here she tells me why she likes using two straws.

On my recent trip down to Florida to help my mom set up her condo, I had to help her record her outgoing answering machine message.

The recording didn't come out the way she wanted it to.

She immediately wanted to re-record it, but I prevailed, and persuaded her to keep this version on there.

Most of her friends love it.

Some can't understand it.

My mom schedules Hanukkah at her convenience. So we got together on Sunday.

When I was little, I used to get eight presents, one for each night of Hanukkah.

We don't do that anymore. We've pretty much done away with giving each other big gifts. Now we just exchange fun little gifts.

One of the things that we always do is try to guess what's in the package before opening it.
Back when we used to give lots of presents, I was like a genius at guessing. We used laugh so hard at how I guessed what was inside the gifts.

We still try and guess. Mom mom had a lot of fun opening her gifts this year.

My father was a magician. I found a bag of his tricks today and that brought back memories of the shows he performed.

He started out doing a magic show for one of my birthday parties, then he did shows for friends, and ended up doing shows at local hospitals.

Some of the tricks I found are pretty old.

I also found some index cards that listed which trick would go into which of his pockets.

He was organized, as am I.

Here's my second Video Podcast.

This time I'm answering a few questions brought up from doing the first Video Podcast.

Image Quality - I get the great image quality on the Video Podcast by using a Canon GL/2 three chip camera. Three chips are better than one. The better you can get your video source, the better the resulting quality will be.

Next, I compress the video using Sorenson Squeeze. Using Sorenson keeps the high quality.

Audio Quality - For audio, I'm using an ElectroVoice 635A/B microphone which is a nice quality mic that take a beating.

Watching the Video Podcast on an iPod - Sadly you can't watch the video on an iPod because viewing QuickTime or mp4 files is not supported, yet.

Here's hoping that it will be some day soon.

This is an experiment at doing a VideoPodcast.

You can listen to it on your iPod in iTunes, but also watch it on your computer.

I'm preparing for the day when you can watch it on your iPod!
