The Carol and Steve Show: Driving The 101
Click to Play
In this episode Carol and Steve are in Southern Californina driving back to Santa Barbara from Los Olivos after a day of wine tasting. I didn't drink any Merlot.
In California all the freeways are called 'The' Something, like The 101 or The 405. Not in Boston. In Boston the highways are called routes. So we have Route 128 and Route 1. You'd never hear anyone says they are taking The 128 anywhere. So funny.
In this episode we congratulate Ravi and Sonia on their one year anniversary of doing a talk show from their car. Check it out: DriveTime. Length 2:07
Formats available: Quicktime (.mov), Flash Video (.flv) at blip.tv

A few exceptions, of course - we have the Pike and the Expressway (for those out of town viewers, that's I-90 and I-93). And let's not get into the dual named roads, like where Route 128 is I-95 most of the time but then it's not, or that we have the second longest interchange/bypass in the country (I-495, right behind I-476 in Pennsylvania).
We're a weird bunch in Boston.

Or in some places you can call them by their other names: "The San Diego Freeway" or "The Hollywood Freeway." I love living on the East Coast, but dang if California isn't beautiful.

I wish I drove THAT section of the 101 more often. It was great to have you out here, Steve. Hope to see you again soon.

Nice!
Thanks for the anniversary shout out -- if we get our stuff together we may actually concatenate the well-wishes we've received, just in time for our two year anniversary!
Driving on the west coast always seems more glamorous than on the east. Reminded me of some of the harrowing mountaineous thruways we encountered in Italy!
