Imogen Heap at Avalon Boston 11/11/06

I was stopped from taking any more photos or video. At least 25 more people were shooting photos and video around me.
As Chuck Olsen says: That's what fans do. The genie is out of the bottle. The point is to capture and share fleeting moments.
When I went to buy Carol a white wine at the bar, the bar tender said, "You don't want to buy white wine here, it's terrible."
When we went up stairs to check out the view and stopped in the aisle for a second, the bouncer said, "Keep moving, you can't stand here." He said it in a Homeland Security type of way which assumed we were guilty of an offense much greater than stopping in the aisle for a moment.
When I was shooting this video, the bouncer told me to shut off the camera and if I took it out again I would be removed from the premises.
I guess he wasn't aware of Imogen's web site where it says, "we'd love to see your cameraphone pics and video clips of YOUR tour experiences! Why not post photos or video clips of Immi performing?"
There is a big disconnect here.
I won't be going back to Avalon any time soon.
From Imogen's site:
If you're new to Imogen's music, make sure you check out her official website www.imogenheap.com and also her myspace profile myspace.com/imogenheap where you can hear her music. And if you like what you hear, visit her online store for CDs, downloads and merch.
Imogen spends a lot of her time touring around the world and we'd love to see your cameraphone pics and video clips of YOUR tour experiences!
Why not post photos or video clips of Immi performing, you meeting Immi, you and your friends travelling to the shows, as well as shots of things such as posters advertising shows, fans queuing around the block, maybe you can even snap Immi's tour bus? We want to see anything that captures YOUR experience of the tour or Immi! Help us create a tour scrapbook with your trusty cameraphone!

Steve,
Yesterday I woke up with "hide and seek" stuck in my head and immediately grabbed my laptop and re-downloaded your music video.
Imogen Heap seems really awesome. I wish I had been there, especially since the Keith and the Girl live show in Cambridge was sold out.

This was lovely, and unfortunate.
The bands are getting it, but some of these clubs are really controlling knuckleheads and behind the times. Let's keep the pressure up on those backwards clubs.

That's terrible that you were treated so badly. That bouncer upstairs was a real jerk. I came up just to get a shot of the stage and he very curtly told me to go back downstairs. I grabbed my husband and went back up and flashed my pass at him and his personality changed completely. He was all bright and bubbly. I can understand that he has a job to do, but being a jerk doesn't help. If it's any consolation, I saw Immi's bass player climb into the VIP area to talk to his parents and the bouncer came bounding after him. Then he flashed his pass around his neck and the bouncer grunted before walking away. What you got for video was great though. Thanks for trying! xx rcg

Steve, this video shows the power of what videoblogging can be. I;m refering not to the 'disconnect' you mention, but to the "free press" you're making of this artist. I mean, I've just checked her myspace page, and I'm LOVING HER MUSIC! I've even decided to buy her CD.
Now, isn't this great???????
Talking a bit about the 'disconnect': I think artist like her, doing what they are doing with her website, encouraging people to record her shows, is a powerfull tool, and eventually more and more artist will be doing it.

Let me know if you ever come to Chicago for a concert (yeah... sure you will). The venue I work at takes pride in being privately owned and fairly down to earth.
No reason to be a jerk... unless there's reason to be a jerk.
Love the video blog!
