My Mom Can't Open It

Everytime I go over to my mom's, she's got a list of things for me to help her with.

This time she needed help with some Tylenol, Dental Floss and Shampoo.

Well done steve....your mom makes me laugh shes funny.

Man I don't know how I feel about this video. part of me wants to laugh, part of me is a little sad. At work we were talking about getting older (like elderly) and what all of it is like, living in retirement communities like we were back in college dorms.

I laughed out lind when the conditioner spurted out onto your hand and you yelped. But then I looked at your Mom struggling with the poorly-designed bottle and it reminded me of my Grandma (Nanny) she is almost as sharp as your Mom, but has problems with her knee. she is 89 and I just want to give her hugs all the time. that is how I felt about this video, I want to give it a hug because it is sweet with a little bit of sadness.

I love my Grandmother so much, she played Uno with me when I was in kindergarten, she made the best taffy-apple salad, she hid dollups of butter in my macshed potatoes to surprise me when I would dig in to eat them. and now she is 89 year old! she is not as fast as before, and that change makes me a little sad. But I am so grateful to have her around! I give her hugs every time I see her because I appreciate her so much.

you seriously are just like another one of my uncles, and millie is like a Grandma. I am glad that you keep making videos that make me want to hug life!

When I was a kid (not that long ago I guess), we used to go pick up my great-grandmother for church and bring her home afterwards. About every other Sunday, she'd have a list of things she needed my father to do. She ran a doll shop out of her home, where she made and sold porcelain dolls. It wasn't until much later in life that all the stuff that she had in her shop I realized she had made by hand. I wish we still had some of that stuff, because it was amazing craftsmanship. She hand painted the dolls well into her 90s. But I digress.

She'd always have a list of things for my father to do, kind of like this video. He'd need to restring a doll for her, because they had elastic bands and her hands weren't stong enough anymore to string them. There'd always be something small around the house to do, like hanging something on the wall or fixing a toilet. Thanks Steve, for helping me remember.

One of my favorite Steve Garfield moments ever! Your mom is great, give her my regards. She's great on camera :) I've seen her blog before, too. She is a neato lady.

Steve you had me laughing out loud with the conditioner squirting and what not. I like how you could really see the mother-son relationship (she pulls out a tissue and starts wiping your hand off. aww)

This is great. A classic.

Nicely done. I loved the part where your mom took out a tissue and wiped your hand. Moms do that.

Wow. I've got some things over here that need opening. Gonna be in NYC anytime soon? I'll put you to work.

That was very funny, but slightly sad. You're great at this video blogging stuff. The still picture of the movie is hilarious. Keep it up.

Not sure what just happened there, but someone ended up with my comment.

STRANGE.

My girlfriend Micaela (aka MC) is also from Boston (Brookline), and always love's watching your shows, as it reminds her of home. I can't wait to show her this one, as she has her own "Millie" (actually named Millie as well!).

Great, this is what you call quality time.
keep up the good work.

I totally empathize with you, I do everything for my mother and I'm just barely a legal adult. I'm going to be leaving for NYC for college and I have no idea what she's going to do without me helping her with the damn remote control.

great video,

I don't think it has much to do with her getting older. She seems pretty spunky to me. I think the products are poorly designed. Especially the hair conditioner. The bottle should be made so that, when opened, the conditioner slowly flows out. I enjoy reading your mom's blog and I love your vlog too :)

I love how your Mom pulls a tissue from her pocket. I love that Mom's always have tissues in their pockets. In her defense...I have that same shampoo and had the hardest time getting that thing open! And as soon as I did I felt like the biggest dork.

Been checking out your blog all week. I'm still laughing at the one of your Mom, and the one with the pants! She's great! She's not shy in front of a camera at all! I've sent the link to your blog to a bunch of my friends. I just started blogging, so don't expect blogging greatness from my blog. I got into it to share my home videos and slide shows. Just a mother of 2 girls sharing our stories. Maybe I'll find my audience someday :) I googled "video blog" and your name was the second hit! You're famous! Keep up the good work. I've bookmarked your blog and will tune in to the Steve and Carol show every week now. Thanks for sharing your lives :)

your poor mum, you're a hero! you saved the day!
