How To: Promote Your Videoblog

Nytimes_promote
Here are my notes, on promoting your video blog, from my recent interview with the New York Times.

Sandeep Junnarkar, from the New York Times, told me when he was going to call, and that he wanted to talk about how to set up and promote a videoblog.

So I made a few notes.

In general, I'm happy with Sandeep's basic overview, but want to add some detail to help you promote your video blog.

From my notes:

1. Do nothing, Google will find you.
The easiest way to promote your video blog, is to do nothing. Google will find you. Just make sure that you annotate your video blog post with text that describes what's in the video. For example, if you search Google for Boston Marathon Video, or Blizzard 05 Video, look who comes up. It's me!

2. Let videoblogging.info know that you have made a new video post. This site for new videobloggers maintains a list of recently updated video blogs.

Some weblog software can automatically do this. It your software can't, you can do it manually at Ping videoblogging.info.

3. Sign up for vidblogs.com and add an entry for each new video that you make.

3A. Join the Yahoo! Videoblogging group. It's a great place to meet other videobloggers from around the world and learn how to get started with your own video blog.

4. Add your feed to mefeedia.com

5. Add an RSS 2.0 feed with enclosures so people can subscribe with ANT

Contribute to local citizen journalism sites like Universal Hub in Boston where we are making the media!

I've written more about this over here on my Off On A Tangent blog.

I hope this helps.

Let me know when you've started your video blog.

» Nightline on blogging from aTypical Joe: A gay New Yorker living in the rural south.
Last night Nightline focused on blogging. They attended a Berkman Bloggers meeting, where Steve Garfield taped the tapers. BTW, they appear to agree that bloggers are not journalists. Steve was also a source for this NYTimes story on video blogging.... [Read More]
